The cultural background of the Dragon Boat Festival is profound andunique, a traditional holiday that has a history spanning thousands of years in China. Originating from ancient worship and sacrificial rites for the dragon totem, it is seen as a commemoration of the ancient patriotic poet Qu Yuan. Qu Yuan, a great poet from the State of Chu, drowned himself in a river due to his concern for the country and its people. To honor his memory, people hold dragon boat races and eat zongzi on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month every year, expressing their remembrance and respect for him.
Zongzi, an indispensable traditional food during the Dragon BoatFestival, also has a long history. Primarily made of glutinous rice, filled with various ingredients, and wrapped in bamboo leaves, zongzi is ready to be
eaten after steaming. Zongzi in different regions vary in taste and shape, all reflecting China's rich culinary culture and regional characteristics.
During the Dragon Boat Festival, zongzi is not just a delicacy; itcarries profound cultural significance. It symbolizes reunion and harmony, representing the gathering of family members and their harmonious coexistence. On this day, every household will make and eat zongzi, celebrating this traditional holiday together.
The deliciousness of zongzi is unforgettable. After steaming, theglutinous rice becomes soft and tasty, and the filling, ranging from savory to sweet, offers a rich variety of flavors. The fragrance of bamboo leaves
combined with the glutinous rice and filling creates a lingering taste. Whenever the Dragon Boat Festival approaches, both southerners and northerners eagerly await the opportunity to enjoy this culinary delicacy.
Therefore, Panda Education cordially invites you to participate in ourfree cultural activity - Making Zongzi.
